Post About SeaRiverShips... is an online community and forum based on European sea-riverships in all its facets. It aims to share photos, information and news about sea-riverships in Europe.

In 2009 Mark Prummel shared his thoughts about a website with only ‘sea- riverships content’ with Jan Albert Bosma and later on also with Chris Cheetham. The first thought: again a maritime website? We already have many maritme websites. We have to make a difference with the other sites: interaction between visitors is what we need. A forum, where visitors are invited to register and join the club, will be the best solution. Summer 2010: The domainname is ours and a forum has been installed. After some modifications in the lay-out this forum is ready for use!

What is a sea- river ship and which ships are discussed on this forum?
For an answer on this question we take a look in the Factsheet Sea River Shipping (PDF) from the Shortsea Promotion Centre Holland.
They define the term sea- river ship as follows:
Factsheet Sea River Shipping wrote:
Sea-river shipping is one of the kinds of shortsea shipping. Its concept is simple:
a single vessel sails both coastal and inland waters. The sea-river ship has specific features, such as draught, air draught and length. These characteristics are related to the navigational restrictions on rivers and canals. Usually sea-river vessels are no larger than 3,000 dwt. Their draught is limited to 5 metres and their low air draught not over 9 metres.

I like to invite you to take a look around and feel free to join the club!

My sincere thanks to Jan Albert, Benjamin and Gerrit Bosma, Chris Cheetham, Marcel Coster, Ben Gernaat, Koos Goudriaan, Michael Neidig and Bob van Raad for their inexhaustible wealth of photos and information!

Kind regards,
Mark Prummel
