During the winter of 1984/85 icing was so extreme in Danish waters that the dutch denmarktraders of which none had Ice Class were forced to stay inside. This pictures shows several of them in the port of Korsör, from left to right :

RIO Y MAR and PAPILLON

Post by GWB »

The Rio y Mar and Pappilon ( built as Frisiana -Aja M) alongside each other , moored at the dolphins outside the Locks in Delzijl.
It was very common that the ships would pan through the locks and wait at the Dolpins for several reasons.
e.g waiting for better weather, the tide or even because of sunday. The locks used to be closed at sunday ( those were the days :) )

In the beginning of the Hamburg-Denmarktrade the ships used to sail together through the German Bight, as is seen on this video, made around 1977

Warber and Papillon alongside at the Zijlvest in Delfzijl.
On the background the office of Amasus can be seen.
Amasus was one of the major freight agents working in the Denmarktrade.
